Rebab

The rebab is a bowed string instrument, ancestor to the European rebec and viol family, originating in the Middle East and spreading through North Africa, Central Asia, and parts of Southeast Asia. It typically has one to three strings and a small resonating body, traditionally covered with skin, and is played upright with a bow. It remains used in classical and folk music traditions such as Arabic, Persian, and Indonesian gamelan ensembles.
