Contrabass Flute

The contrabass flute is a very large, low-pitched flute pitched an octave below the bass flute, with its tubing bent into a rectangular or looped shape and often played resting on a stand due to its size and weight. It is used mainly in flute choirs and contemporary music for its deep, haunting low register. Its scarcity and specialized construction mean it is played by relatively few flutists dedicated to low-flute ensemble music.
