Cigar Box Ukulele

A cigar box ukulele is a homemade or artisan stringed instrument that uses an actual cigar box (or a box built to resemble one) as its resonating body, fitted with a wooden neck and typically three or four strings. It descends from the folk tradition of cigar box instruments popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when musicians repurposed cheap, available materials to build guitars and ukuleles. Hobbyists and DIY luthiers enjoy building them as an accessible, low-cost introduction to instrument making and roots/folk music.
