Vibraphone

The vibraphone is a percussion instrument in the mallet family, similar to a marimba or xylophone but made of metal bars, each suspended over a tube resonator with a motorized rotating disc that creates a distinctive vibrato effect. Players strike the bars with mallets and can sustain notes using a foot pedal, similar to a piano's sustain pedal. It's especially prominent in jazz, played by musicians like Lionel Hampton and Gary Burton, and appeals to those drawn to its shimmering, bell-like tone.
