Guitar Zither

A guitar zither is a fretless folk zither strung with both melody strings over a fretboard-like chord bar and additional chord strings, allowing simple melodies to be played by pressing buttons or following a paper guide while strumming. It is typically played flat on a table or lap and was popular as an easy home instrument in late 19th and early 20th century Europe and America.
