Hurdy Gurdy

A stringed folk instrument played by turning a hand crank that rotates a rosined wheel against the strings, functioning like a mechanical violin bow, while a keyboard of wooden tangents stops the strings to change pitch. It also has drone strings that sound continuously, giving it a distinctive buzzing, bagpipe-like sound used in French, Hungarian, and other European folk traditions.
