Viola D'Amore

The viola d'amore is a historical bowed string instrument from the Baroque era, similar in size to a viola but featuring sympathetic strings beneath the main playing strings that resonate to produce a shimmering, ethereal sound. It typically has six or seven playing strings, more than a standard viola or violin. Today it's mainly played by early music specialists and enthusiasts of period instruments performing Baroque repertoire, notably works by Vivaldi and Bach.
