Battle Rap

Battle rap is a competitive form of hip-hop in which two rappers face off, alternating verses of scripted or freestyled insults, wordplay, and boasts aimed at outperforming and outwitting their opponent in front of an audience or judges. It grew out of hip-hop culture's tradition of verbal sparring and "cutting contests," and has evolved into a distinct subculture with organized leagues (such as URL and King of the Dot) and widely viewed online videos. Fans and participants are drawn to its emphasis on lyrical skill, quick wit, crowd control, and personal rivalry.
