New Postings Rise 3% to 9,497, While 11,717 Roles Closed

By Ben Garves

Employers closed 11,717 roles over the past seven days and opened 9,497. That is 2,220 more closures than new roles, and it happened in a week when new postings rose slightly: 9,497 against 9,223 the week before, a gain of 3%. Both figures come from the employer job boards Career App crawls plus roles posted directly on the site, not the whole labor market.

The comparison counts only boards already being tracked before the window opened, so a newly added board cannot inflate the change.

The week across the boards we track

After the churn, 59,169 listings remain open across 680 employers hiring.

Remote work barely registered in the new batch. Only 4% of roles opened this week were posted as remote.

Where the new roles landed

California took the largest share with 789 new roles, down from 919. Texas followed with 614, then Florida at 468 and New York at 463. All four posted fewer than the week before, and New York fell furthest, from 632, a 27% drop.

The steepest jump belongs to Tennessee: 261 new roles against 140 a week earlier, up 86%. Massachusetts rose 51%, to 247 from 164.

States with the most new roles this week

Ohio added 298, Michigan 244, North Carolina 236, Pennsylvania 232, Illinois 205 and Arizona 184. Plenty of other states saw openings this week; these are simply the twelve with the most.

Who posted the most

AdventHealth posted 611 new roles, more than any other employer and well clear of second place. It now carries 978 open listings, meaning about six in ten of its current openings went up in the last seven days.

Target added 330 of its 808 open roles, Accenture 328 of 778, and Ranger Boats 290 of 737. Meijer posted 270, Citigroup 227, Tyson Foods 226 and Cleveland Clinic 224.

Employers posting the most new roles

The most lopsided board belongs to Longs Drugs: 200 new roles out of 216 open, so nearly its entire posted inventory is fresh. JLL rounds out the ten with 198 new against 314 open.

What the listings pay

These are pay ranges employers published on the listings themselves, annualized to USD at 2,080 hours, not what anyone says they earn.

Engineering Manager carries the highest posted median at $283,500 across 199 listings, followed by Machine Learning Engineer at $270,000 across 95. Product Manager sits at $250,000 on 297 listings and Software Engineer at $244,800, the deepest sample at 1,033 listings.

Below that: Account Executive at $225,000 (149 listings), Mechanical Engineer at $192,500, Marketing Manager at $180,000, Sales Manager at $176,850, Financial Analyst at $170,000, and Sales Representative at $75,914 across 124 listings.

Correction, October 11, 2026: An earlier version of this post counted every closed listing rather than closed roles, and compared each week with the one before using only roles still open, which overstated closures and growth. The figures above have been recomputed, and comparisons the data cannot yet support have been removed.

Correction, October 19, 2026: The pay medians in this post were calculated from the top of each posted pay range rather than its midpoint, which is the basis our occupation pages use. Midpoint medians are typically 10% to 17% lower than the figures shown here.
