10,220 Roles Opened and 9,743 Closed This Week Across the Boards We Track

By Ben Garves

Openings narrowly outpaced closures this week. Across the employer job boards we track, 10,220 roles opened in the last seven days against 9,743 that closed.

This week across the boards we track

New postings are up 18% week over week, from 8,653 to 10,220. That comparison covers only boards we were already tracking before the window opened, so newly onboarded employers can't inflate it.

The standing inventory is 58,664 open listings from 682 employers hiring. Remote roles made up just 5% of new postings — the overwhelming majority of what opened this week is tied to a location.

California led, Tennessee accelerated fastest

New listings by state, this week vs prior week

California posted 1,038 new roles, up 51% from 686 the prior week. Texas followed with 673 (from 575), then New York at 490 and Florida at 473.

The sharpest move belongs to Tennessee: 300 new roles against 157 the week before, a 91% jump. Ohio rose 40%, from 251 to 351, Colorado 35%, from 165 to 223, and Minnesota 29%, from 171 to 221.

Two states went the other way. Illinois slipped from 245 to 235 and Pennsylvania from 251 to 223. Michigan (290, from 288) was roughly flat, and North Carolina edged up from 237 to 250.

Ten employers put up 2,990 new listings

Employers posting the most new roles this week

The ten busiest employers put up 2,990 new listings between them.

AdventHealth led with 559 new roles and 991 open in total. Ranger Boats was second at 399 new against 748 open, and Cleveland Clinic third with 320 new and 885 open — the largest standing inventory in the group after AdventHealth.

Healthcare and retail dominate the rest: Meijer (299 new), Tyson Foods (238), Target (228), Lifepoint Hospitals (216) and Longs Drugs (207). Citigroup added 313 and JLL 211.

One detail worth flagging: Longs Drugs has 207 new listings against 221 open total. Nearly its entire board turned over in a week.

With 9,743 roles closing in a week, speed matters more than breadth right now. Start with the job search, or follow the daily numbers on US hiring trends.

Correction, October 11, 2026: An earlier version of this post counted every closed listing rather than closed roles, and compared each week with the one before using only roles still open, which overstated closures and growth. The figures above have been recomputed, and comparisons the data cannot yet support have been removed.

Correction, October 19, 2026: The pay medians in this post were calculated from the top of each posted pay range rather than its midpoint, which is the basis our occupation pages use. Midpoint medians are typically 10% to 17% lower than the figures shown here.
