10,339 Roles Opened and 10,997 Closed This Week Across the Boards We Track
New postings rose 15% this week, and closings still outnumbered them.
Across the employer job boards Career App crawls, 10,339 roles opened in the last seven days, up from 8,979 the week before, a gain of about 15%. Over the same seven days, 10,997 roles closed. That leaves 59,417 listings open from 682 employers currently hiring, with closings outnumbering openings by 658.

Week-over-week counts cover only boards we were already tracking before the comparison began, so boards added recently cannot inflate the number.
Remote work stayed scarce in the new batch: about 4% of this week's openings were posted as remote. Roughly 19 in 20 new listings named a worksite.
California led, but New York and Tennessee moved fastest
These are the 12 states with the most new roles on our boards this week.

California posted the most at 938, down 12% from 1,069 a week earlier. The sharper moves came behind it. New York went from 410 to 640 and Tennessee from 158 to 246, both up 56%, the steepest climbs in the group. Florida rose 49%, 377 to 562, and Illinois 48%, 200 to 296. Texas rose 14%, 702 against 615.
Michigan slipped to 251 from 274 and Ohio to 294 from 353. North Carolina held steady at 227 after 221, Arizona rose 50% to 223, Pennsylvania reached 237 and Massachusetts 223.
Ten employers posted a third of the week

Target alone accounted for 986 new listings, nearly a tenth of everything that opened, and it holds 1,069 open roles, meaning almost its entire open pool is fresh this week. Health systems made up much of the rest: AdventHealth added 577 new against 964 open, Lifepoint Hospitals 226 of 345, and Cleveland Clinic 215 of a larger 853 open.
Ranger Boats posted 322, U.S. Bank 318 on top of 1,015 open, Meijer 263, Citigroup 256, Tyson Foods 209 and Longs Drugs 205. Together those ten boards produced 3,577 new listings, about a third of the week's total. Retail, hospital systems, banking and food processing did most of the hiring that moved the number.

Correction, October 11, 2026: An earlier version of this post counted every closed listing rather than closed roles, and compared each week with the one before using only roles still open, which overstated closures and growth. The figures above have been recomputed, and comparisons the data cannot yet support have been removed.
Correction, October 19, 2026: The pay medians in this post and its chart were calculated from the top of each posted pay range rather than its midpoint, which is the basis our occupation pages use. Midpoint medians are typically 10% to 17% lower than the figures shown here.
