18,599 Roles Opened and 8,090 Closed This Week, With Michigan Nearly Tripling

By Ben Garves

Employers opened 18,599 roles in the past seven days and closed 8,090, across the employer career sites Career App crawls. That is a shade better than two openings for every closure. The job search holds 71,638 open listings today from 1,065 employers.

Is hiring picking up or slowing down?

Flat week to week, slightly down month to month. Counting only boards tracked in both periods, new roles came to 8,676 this week against 8,660 the week before, a difference of 16. Over 30 days the comparison is softer: 38,724 new roles against 40,629 in the prior 30, a drop of 1,905, or about 5 percent.

Closures trail reality by roughly a week, since a role is only marked closed when its board is re-read. Both the new and closed figures count roles rather than listings, so duplicate copies of one job on one board count once and the two numbers compare directly.

Remote work stayed scarce in the new batch. Three percent of roles opened this week were posted as remote.

Which states added the most new roles this week?

California led with 825 new roles, ahead of Texas at 611 and New York at 555. Michigan is the standout move: 338 new roles against 122 the week before, nearly triple. New York added 137. Florida went the other way, down from 474 to 391.
