New Postings Held Steady at 10,102 This Week as 10,260 Roles Closed
New job postings on the boards we track totaled 10,102 over the last seven days, against 10,220 in the seven days before that. That is a dip of 118 postings, or about 1%.
The comparison covers only boards we were already crawling in both windows. Boards added partway through are excluded, so an onboarding push never shows up as a hiring surge.
A month-over-month comparison needs more history than our crawl has yet, so this roundup sticks to the latest week.
Openings and closings nearly matched
Closures ran at 10,260 over the last seven days, 158 more than new postings in the same stretch. Other current figures for context: 59,364 open listings and 682 employers hiring. Remote roles were 4% of new postings. You can follow the daily series on the US hiring trends, day by day page.
Where the late-month postings landed
State detail is weekly rather than monthly, so the figures below compare the last seven days with the seven before, again on boards tracked in both.
California led with 1,112 new postings against 1,038, followed by Texas at 694 against 673 and New York at 592 against 490. Florida rose 13%, 533 against 473. The sharpest gains came from Arizona, 238 against 164, up 45%, and Massachusetts, 224 against 166, up 35%.

Illinois (263 against 235) and Pennsylvania (233 against 223) rose as well. Four of the top twelve posted fewer than the week before: Ohio (249 against 351), Tennessee (237 against 300), North Carolina (220 against 250) and Georgia (205 against 212).
Among employers, Target added 986 new postings in the week against 1,069 total open, meaning nearly its whole open pool is fresh. AdventHealth added 577 of its 964 open roles, See's Candies 319 of 479, U.S. Bank 318 of 1,015, and Meijer 263 of 681. Citigroup (256), Lifepoint Hospitals (226), Cleveland Clinic (215), Tyson Foods (209) and Longs Drugs (205) round out the top ten. Retail, health systems and banks did most of the posting.

Correction, October 11, 2026: An earlier version of this post counted every closed listing rather than closed roles, and compared each week with the one before using only roles still open, which overstated closures and growth. The figures above have been recomputed, and comparisons the data cannot yet support have been removed.
Correction, October 19, 2026: The pay medians in this post were calculated from the top of each posted pay range rather than its midpoint, which is the basis our occupation pages use. Midpoint medians are typically 10% to 17% lower than the figures shown here.
