Sarangi

The sarangi is a short-necked, box-shaped bowed string instrument from North India, carved from a single block of wood with a skin-covered resonator and numerous sympathetic strings beneath the melody strings. Prized for its tonal closeness to the human voice, it has traditionally been used to accompany vocalists, folk singers, and kathak dancers in Hindustani music.
