Tenor Banjo

The tenor banjo is a four-string banjo, shorter-necked than the five-string bluegrass banjo, typically tuned in fifths (C-G-D-A) like a viola or mandola. It was widely used in early jazz and dance bands of the 1920s-30s and remains a staple instrument in Irish traditional music, where it is often tuned like a mandolin (G-D-A-E) and played with a flatpick.
