Valve Trombone

A valve trombone is a brass instrument that uses piston or rotary valves instead of the sliding tube found on a standard trombone to change pitch. This design makes it easier to play fast, technical passages and is more familiar to trumpet or euphonium players transitioning to trombone. It is used in jazz, Latin American brass bands, and orchestral settings, though it has a slightly different tone than the slide trombone.
