Hammered Dulcimer

The hammered dulcimer is a stringed instrument consisting of a trapezoidal soundboard strung with multiple courses of strings that the player strikes with small handheld mallets or hammers rather than plucking or bowing. It produces a bright, ringing, cascading tone and is used in American folk, Appalachian, Celtic, and Middle Eastern-derived musical traditions, attracting players drawn to its distinctive percussive-melodic sound.
