Oboe D'Amore

The oboe d'amore is a double-reed woodwind instrument pitched a minor third lower than the standard oboe, giving it a mellower, sweeter tone (its name means "oboe of love"). It is most famously used in the works of J.S. Bach, and is played today mainly by professional oboists specializing in Baroque and orchestral repertoire that calls for its distinctive timbre.
