Dulcimer

The dulcimer is a stringed folk instrument that comes in two main forms: the Appalachian (mountain) dulcimer, a fretted instrument laid across the lap and strummed or picked, and the hammered dulcimer, a trapezoidal box of strings struck with small mallets. Both have deep roots in American and European folk music traditions and are popular among hobbyists for their comparatively gentle learning curve and warm, resonant sound. They are widely used in folk, bluegrass, and traditional Appalachian music circles.
