Marimba

The marimba is a percussion instrument consisting of wooden bars struck with mallets, each bar tuned to a specific pitch and typically paired with resonating tubes underneath to amplify and enrich the tone. It originated in Africa and was further developed in Central America, particularly Guatemala and Mexico, where it is a national instrument used in folk and popular music, and it is also used in orchestral, jazz, and contemporary classical music worldwide. Players use two to four mallets per hand for chords and rapid passages, requiring significant coordination and technique.
