Whistle

A whistle is a small device that produces a loud, piercing sound when air is forced through it, commonly used by referees and coaches to signal calls in sports, by law enforcement for directing traffic or alerting attention, and by hobbyists such as bird-callers and hikers for signaling. Whistling as a skill, producing a musical tone by blowing air through pursed lips or fingers, is also practiced recreationally and competitively in whistling competitions.
