Subcontrabass Saxophone

The subcontrabass saxophone is an extremely large and rare member of the saxophone family, pitched roughly two octaves below the alto saxophone, producing a deep, foghorn-like tone. Only a small number have ever been built, by specialist instrument makers, due to their immense size, weight, and cost. They are prized by collectors and used occasionally in experimental or novelty musical performances rather than standard ensembles.
