Mandolin

The mandolin is a small, plucked stringed instrument with a rounded or teardrop-shaped body and typically eight strings arranged in four paired courses, usually tuned like a violin (G-D-A-E). Played with a pick, it produces a bright, ringing tone often associated with Italian folk music, bluegrass, and Irish traditional music, with notable use by artists in country and classical mandolin orchestras. Its distinctive tremolo technique, rapidly picking a note, is used to sustain sound since notes decay quickly.
