Cor Anglais/English Horn

The cor anglais, or English horn, is a double-reed woodwind instrument in the oboe family, pitched a fifth lower than the standard oboe and known for its warm, mellow, slightly melancholic tone. It is a standard member of the orchestral woodwind section, featured prominently in solo passages such as the slow movement of Dvořák's "New World" Symphony. It is typically played by oboists who double on the instrument, since its fingering closely resembles the oboe's.
