Dombra

The dombra (also spelled dombyra) is a long-necked, two-stringed plucked lute that is the national instrument of Kazakhstan, also played in Kyrgyzstan and other parts of Central Asia. It's used to accompany folk songs, epic storytelling (dastan), and traditional dance music, and is prized for its distinctive twangy, resonant tone produced by strumming or plucking with the fingers.
