Cornet

The cornet is a brass instrument similar to the trumpet but with a more conical bore, producing a mellower, rounder tone, and it is a central voice in brass bands and traditional British-style brass ensembles. It uses the same three-valve fingering system as the trumpet, making the two instruments easy to switch between, though cornet players prize its warmer sound for solo and lyrical passages. It has a strong tradition in British brass band competitions and community bands.
