Mando-Bass
The mando-bass is a large, low-pitched member of the mandolin family, typically tuned like a double bass and played upright with the instrument resting on the floor, plucked or strummed rather than bowed. It was developed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as part of mandolin orchestras to provide bass accompaniment alongside mandolins, mandolas, and mandocellos. It is now relatively rare and mainly found in specialized mandolin ensembles.
