Bassoon

The bassoon is a large double-reed woodwind instrument known for its distinctive low, reedy tone and extensive range, played with the instrument held diagonally across the body and its long bore folded to a manageable length. It serves as a core member of orchestras and wind ensembles, providing bass-register support as well as memorable solo passages, such as the opening of Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring."
