Contra Bass

The contrabass (or double bass) is the largest and lowest-pitched instrument in the string family, played upright with a bow or by plucking (pizzicato), and forms the harmonic foundation of orchestras, jazz ensembles, and bluegrass bands. Its deep, resonant tone anchors the low end of the music, and it can be played standing or seated due to its large size. Musicians are drawn to its central role in rhythm sections and its versatility across classical, jazz, and folk genres.
