Bass Clarinet

The bass clarinet is a larger, lower-pitched member of the clarinet family, pitched an octave below the standard B-flat clarinet and recognizable by its curved neck and upturned bell. It is played in orchestras, concert bands, and jazz ensembles for its rich, dark tone, and composers such as Wagner and Mahler expanded its role as a solo and coloristic voice in the orchestra.
