Bass Banjo

The bass banjo is a large, low-pitched banjo built to play in the bass register, typically tuned an octave below a standard banjo and used to provide bottom-end support in banjo orchestras or ensembles. It was more common in early 20th-century banjo bands and ragtime ensembles than in modern bluegrass, where the string bass usually fills that role.
