Contra-Alto Clarinet

The contra-alto clarinet is a large, low-pitched member of the clarinet family, pitched in E-flat an octave below the alto clarinet, with its long tubing typically folded and often mounted on a floor peg due to its size. It is used almost exclusively in concert and clarinet choir settings to provide deep bass harmonic support. Its rarity makes it a specialty instrument played mostly by dedicated low-clarinet enthusiasts and school or community clarinet ensembles.
