Bass/Baritone Oboe

The bass oboe (also called baritone oboe) is a double-reed woodwind pitched an octave below the standard oboe, with a long, often bent, bocal-fitted body and a distinctive flared bell. It is rarely used but appears in some orchestral scores (such as Holst's "The Planets") and occasional oboe ensemble or contemporary works for its deep, reedy timbre.
