Double Bass

The double bass is the largest and lowest-pitched instrument in the modern string family, played standing or on a stool and sounded either by bowing (arco) or plucking (pizzicato). It anchors the bass line in orchestras and is central to jazz, bluegrass, and rockabilly, where its plucked, percussive sound underpins the rhythm section.
