Sitar

The sitar is a plucked string instrument central to Hindustani (North Indian) classical music, featuring a long hollow neck, a gourd resonator, movable frets, and sympathetic strings that produce a distinctive resonant drone. It became internationally famous through musicians like Ravi Shankar and is played by pressing and bending strings against curved frets to produce the characteristic gamak (pitch-bending) ornamentation of Indian classical music.
