Lap Steel Guitars

The lap steel guitar is a stringed instrument played horizontally across the player's lap, plucked or strummed with the right hand while the left hand slides a metal or glass bar (a "steel") along the strings to change pitch, producing the instrument's signature smooth glissando sound. It originated in early 20th-century Hawaiian music and later influenced country, blues, and rock genres, notably as a precursor to the pedal steel guitar. Hobbyist musicians enjoy it for its distinctive tone and relatively approachable technique compared to fretted guitars.
