Piccolo Trumpet

The piccolo trumpet is the smallest and highest-pitched trumpet in common use, usually pitched in B-flat or A an octave above the standard B-flat trumpet, and often fitted with four valves for improved intonation. It is best known for its use in Baroque repertoire, most famously the high trumpet part in Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 2, and is a favorite of soloists like Maurice André. Its bright, penetrating sound suits fast, high passages that would be difficult on a standard trumpet.
