Pan Pipes

Pan pipes (or panpipes) are a wind instrument made of multiple tuned pipes of different lengths, bound together in a row, that a musician plays by blowing across the open top of each tube. Named after the Greek god Pan, who was said to have invented them, they appear in many folk traditions worldwide, most famously in Andean music (as the zampoña or siku) and in Eastern European and Romanian folk ensembles (as the nai). Players are drawn to their breathy, melodic tone and the skill involved in producing precise pitches by breath control alone.
