Mezzo-Soprano Saxophone (Alto in F)

The mezzo-soprano saxophone, pitched in F, is a rare member of the saxophone family invented by Adolphe Sax in the 19th century, sitting between the soprano and alto saxophones in range and size. Unlike the now-standard alto saxophone in E♭, it never achieved widespread adoption and largely fell out of production and use. It survives today mainly as a historical curiosity sought by collectors and saxophone historians.
