Alto Guitar

The alto guitar is a member of a guitar family tuned higher than a standard classical guitar, designed to extend the guitar's range upward for ensemble playing, similar to how string quartets use different-sized instruments. It is used mainly in guitar orchestras and ensembles to add brighter, higher voicings alongside standard, bass, and contrabass guitars. Such instruments are relatively uncommon outside dedicated guitar ensemble repertoire.
