Bongo

A pair of small, open-bottomed hand drums of Afro-Cuban origin, held between the knees and played with the fingers and palms. The two drums, a smaller 'macho' and larger 'hembra,' are staples of son, salsa, and other Latin music ensembles, appealing to players for their intricate rhythmic patterns and central role in Afro-Caribbean percussion.
