Alto Flute
The alto flute is a larger, lower-pitched member of the flute family, typically pitched in G, a fourth below the standard concert flute. It has a distinctively breathy, dark, mellow tone due to its larger bore and requires more air to play, and is used by orchestral flutists and composers seeking a warmer, richer timbre than the standard flute. It appears in orchestral works, flute choirs, film scores, and some jazz and world music settings.
