Banjo

The banjo is a stringed instrument with a thin membrane stretched over a circular frame or resonator, typically fitted with four or five strings and played by plucking or strumming. It has roots in West African gourd instruments brought to the Americas, later becoming central to American folk, bluegrass, old-time, and country music traditions. Its bright, percussive twang makes it a signature sound in bluegrass bands and old-time string ensembles.
