Rebec
The rebec is a small, pear-shaped bowed string instrument popular in medieval and Renaissance Europe, typically having two to three strings and played resting on the shoulder or against the chest. It descended from the Arabic rebab and was a precursor to the violin family. Today it is mainly played by early music specialists and historical performance ensembles seeking authentic period sound.
