Kantele

The kantele is a traditional Finnish plucked string instrument in the zither family, with strings stretched over a wooden soundbox and no neck or fretboard. It is considered a national instrument of Finland, historically used to accompany the singing of the Kalevala folk poetry, and ranges from simple five-string folk versions to modern concert kanteles with dozens of strings. Enthusiasts play it as a folk-music hobby and it remains central to Finnish traditional music education.
