Rapping

Rapping is a vocal music style, central to hip-hop culture, in which words are spoken or chanted rhythmically in rhyme and cadence over a musical beat, often improvised (freestyled) or written in advance. It originated among African American and Latino communities in New York City in the 1970s and has since grown into a dominant global music genre and mode of lyrical storytelling, social commentary, and competitive wordplay (battle rap). Enthusiasts pursue it both as a performance art and as a technical craft involving rhyme schemes, flow, and beat-matching.
