Iaido

Iaido is a modern Japanese martial art centered on the smooth, controlled drawing of a sword (katana) from its scabbard to counter a sudden attack, followed by a cut, cleaning the blade, and resheathing it. Practitioners, called iaidoka, train through solo kata (choreographed forms) that emphasize precision, timing, and mental composure rather than sparring against an opponent. It evolved from older samurai swordsmanship traditions and is practiced today both as a discipline for self-cultivation and as a competitive and grading-based art.
