Kendo

Kendo ("the way of the sword") is a modern Japanese martial art descended from traditional swordsmanship, in which practitioners wear protective armor (bogu) and strike each other using a bamboo sword called a shinai. Matches focus on striking designated target areas—head, wrists, torso, and throat—with proper form, spirit, and a shouted kiai, judged by referees for valid points. It is practiced both as a competitive sport and as a discipline for character development, with significant followings in Japan and internationally.
