Pugil Stick Bout

A pugil stick bout is a padded-weapon sparring match, most associated with military combat training, in which two participants wearing helmets and protective gear fight with long poles capped in soft padding on both ends. It simulates bayonet or hand-to-hand combat while reducing injury risk, and is a staple of basic training obstacle courses like the U.S. Marine Corps Crucible. It has also been adapted as a recreational or competitive novelty event outside the military.
