Egyptian Stick Fencing
Egyptian stick fencing, known as Tahtib, is one of the oldest documented combat sports, depicted in ancient Egyptian tomb art dating back thousands of years, in which two opponents spar with long wooden staves in a ritualized, rhythmic contest. Traditionally performed to drumming and accompanied by dance-like footwork, it blends martial technique with folk performance and is still practiced today in parts of rural Egypt as both a cultural tradition and a stylized sport. Modern revival efforts have also adapted it into a women's version and promoted it for UNESCO intangible cultural heritage recognition.
